The Rome Prize of the American Academy in Rome is a 120-year old institution that utilizes the dynamic cosmopolitan setting of Rome to support the interaction and collaboration of talented, innovative artists, scholars, and writers. Through a national competition, the Rome Prize is awarded to individuals who represent the highest standard of excellence in the arts and humanities. Rome Prize recipients enjoy the freedom to pursue their work in an atmosphere conducive to intellectual and artistic freedom, interdisciplinary exchange and innovation.

Mr. Torre was awarded the Rome Prize in Landscape Architecture in 1974-1976, receiving one of the last two-year fellowships to live and study at the American Academy in Rome.

This wonderful institution and collaboration with other academy fellows, as well as the inestimable resources of Italy and Europe, have been the foundation of Mr. Torre's thinking and approach to the design process.
